Abstract
910,101. Spring surfaces. GREAVES & THOMAS Ltd., and COBB, W. R. July 31, 1961, No. 27705/61. Class 52 (4). A resilient seat surface is formed by parallel springs 14 anchored at each end to opposing longitudinal members 12, 13 which in turn are connected to the frame 10 by springs 16 located at the four corners. In a modification, the springs 14 are replaced by sinuous springs extending between the members 12, 13. The members 12, 13 are rigid in the transverse direction of the framework 10 but flexible in a direction normal to this, the members usually being disposed transversely of the frame but may be arranged to be at the sides of the frame. The length and strength of the springs 14, 16 are chosen so that when unloaded they are just in tension and so that local unevenness of the loading is taken up by the springs 14. Either the springs 14 or the springs 16, but not both, may be replaced by flexible non-extensible members.
