The plant consists of a rotary carriage 1 with a pneumatic driving device 3, which will bring the containers 2 one after another under the mouth of a shoot 4, Fig. 3, through which rubbish is dropped. Under the lowermouth of the shoot 4 is located a drum 5 with open ends which guides the dropping rubbish into the container 2 that is in the position to be filed. In the drum 5 is provided a rockable feeler 6, which is actuated by the falling rubbish. Compression of the contents of the container 2 in the position for being filled is arranged to take place when the feeler 6 has received a predetermined number of impulses. The drum 5 is pivotally mounted via arms on a pillar 7, so that it can be swung aside and simultaneously pull a cover (not shown) across the lower mouth of the shoot 4. Associated with the drum 5 is a compressing device which has a pneumatic cylinder 8 with a piston rod whose lower end carries a press head 9. The compressing device partakes in the movement of the drum 5, so that when the latter is swung aside, the compressing device is brought into position above the rubbish container 2 in use, as shown in Fig. 2. The swinging movement is caused by a pneumatic driving device 10, to which compressed air is fed via a valve controlled by the feeler 6. A time relay (not shown) causes withdrawal of the press head 9 after a short time, whereafter the compressing device is restored to its original, inoperative position, the drum 5 simultaneously being swung back into position to connect the lower mouth of the shoot 4 with the upper mouth of the container 2 in the filling position. The plant is now ready for use again and the partly filled container 2 can receive further rubbish. The container 2 to be filled, whose contents are thus compressed at intervals, rests on a felt pad 11 or some other resilient material to avoid unnecessary noise during compression. When the container 2 is full, the press head 9 can be pressed down only a very short distance in the container. To control the compressing device the press head 9 is provided with a rod 12, which is movable outside the cylinder 8 and actuates, through a cam 13, a feeler 14, as soon as the press head 9 has moved downwards by a predetermined minimum distance. If the cam 13 does not actuate the feeler 14 during the compressing operation the press head 9 is withdrawn to its highest position and remains there until the driving device 3 has placed an empty container 2 below the lower mouth of the shoot. When a bag has been filled and pushed away from below the shoot 4, its edges are loosened from the pocket 15 and folded towards each other and the bag is closed automatically and mechanically, by means not shown. The closed bag can easily be taken out of the pocket 15. Instead of having the containers 2 arranged in a ring they can alternatively be placed in a row and arranged to be pushed one after the other under the mouth of the shoot 4 by an appropriate feeding mechanism.
