A film driving mechanism for a cinematographic camera or projector is of the type shown and comprises fixed locating pins 5, 4 on the picture gate 2, a shuttle 1, carrier pins 6, 7 for driving the film mounted on a frame 8 slidable longitudinally, for example on a shaft 10, and driven through a fork member 9 by a heartshaped cam 11 mounted on a shaft 12, the shuttle being driven in a direction perpendicular to that of frame 8 by a circular cam (not shown) mounted on the shaft 12, the fork member 9 and frame 8 being linked by a friction connection, and adjustable stops 15, 16 are provided on the gate frame to limit the movement of frame 8. In an apparatus adapted to receive film of different sizes, heart-shaped cams of different sizes may be mounted on shaft 12.
