Film feed mechanism for a cinematographic apparatus comprises a Geneva mechanism and feed sprocket the teeth profile of the latter, as viewed in the axial direction, having a shoulder 15 which during film feed co-operates with a cam 16 to pivot the spring-urged presser plate 11 slightly away from the film gate 12 for free take-up of the film. The amount of film fed past the gate in each movement of the Geneva mechanism, and hence the film image dimensions, depends on the ratio of the number of segments of the latter and the number of teeth on the sprocket wheel or wheels. By choosing a ratio greater than one a panoromic film format can be obtained.
