Abstract

908,998. Insulators. HAEFELY & CIE S.A., EMILE. Feb. 17, 1960 [April 6, 1959], No. 5600/60. Class 36. A bushing insulator comprises a hollow insulating body 1 with a conductor 2 passing centrally therethrough and sealed at one end to the insulator body by a threaded connectionpiece 3 which abuts against an internal shoulder 5 on the body and is held in place by a nut 6, a packing-ring 4 completing the seal. The other end of the insulator has a washer 11 which locates that end of the conductor and has apertures 12 to allow flow of cooling fluid from an orifice 13. An external flange 7 seats on an apparatus casing and is sealed by a ring 9. Positive pressure difference between inside and outside of the casing thus results in an increase of sealing pressure of the connection-piece 3 against the shoulder 5. The conductor may be a plurality of flat strips or a cylindrical rod, and the connection-piece may be in the form of a collar integral with the conductor. The sealing may be effected at the lower end of the insulator (Fig. 4, not shown) the shoulder and connectionpiece being modified accordingly. The insulator body may be of epoxy or polyester resin which may incorporate mineral powder filler or glass filament or fabric reinforcement. Conductive inserts or a conductive coating may be provided for stress grading.
