Abstract

908,972. Arc welding torches. OERLIKON MACHINE-TOOL WORKS ADMINISTRATION CO. July 16, 1959 [July 17, 1958], No. 24502/59. Class 39 (3). [Also in Group XXII] In a gas shielded arc welding or cutting torch having a consumable or non-consumable electrode accommodated in a central bore in a core and a gas nozzle releasably attached to and concentric with the core, the gas nozzle is cooled by a medium supplied through ducts in the core to an annular cooling chamber located internally of the nozzle. The core consits of concentric member 4, 5, soldered together and non-rotatably mounted on an inner member 1. A nut 11 on the inner member 1 engages the outer members 4, 5, to close a collet 3 on a non- consumable rod electrode 2. The core carries a nut 28, a rigid ring 21, flexible rings 25, 27 and a fixed ceramic ring 26, which serve to insulate the gas nozzle 20 from the core. Compression of the flexible rings 25, 27 by the nut 28 causes these to frictionally engage the nozzle 20. Gas is supplied by pipe 14 to an annular space between the core members 1 and 4, and passes through slots in the collet 3 to the nozzle 20. Cooling water is passed through tubes 13a, 13b and ducts 12, 12a in the core to annular spaces formed by interconnected recesses 23, 24 in the ring 21.
