Abstract

908,967. Automatic volume control. DICTAPHONE CO. Ltd. Feb. 20, 1959 [Feb. 25, 1958], No. 6048/58. Class 40 (4). A variable voltage of audio-frequency is connected across a potential divider one element of which is the collector emitter circuit of a transistor the base of which is biased by the variable voltage so that the collector emitter impedance falls as the voltage increases in amplitude. As shown, audio frequency is fed from terminals 1, 4, to a transformer with a tapped secondary winding. A resistor 8 and the collector emitter circuit of transistor T shunt part of the secondary winding, the whole of which is connected to feed a rectifier 11 providing bias to the transistor base. Output is taken from across emitter and collector and has a constant voltage. The transistor operates in the region of zero base bias and zero collector voltage.
