A hatch for the shelter deck 1 of a ship comprises a coaming 3 consisting of a bulb iron beneath the bulb of which are detachably disposed a plurality of lengths of angle iron 5 fastened together end to end and provided with a plurality of pairs of trunnions 8 between which are mounted eye-bolts 9 for clamping the cover 4 against the bulb of the hatch coaming. The cover 4 may be divided into several parts joined together by a bolted water-tight joint.
