Abstract

908,395. Endless conveyers. FORGROVE MACHINERY CO. Ltd. Dec. 9, 1960 [Feb. 23, 1960], No. 6356/60. Addition to 867,311. Class 78 (1). [Also in Group XVII] An article feed device as described in the parent Specification is modified in that the stop 12 at the discharge end of the conveyer 11 includes a second photo-electric means PC1 positioned adjacent to the stop 12, which causes the stop to be raised to allow articles to be discharged off the end of the conveyer 11 in the event of a stoppage of the wrapping-machine, to prevent an accumulation of articles, which is sensed by photo-cell PC2. In normal operation, articles infed on conveyer 11 are transferred by flights 15 on an overhead conveyer 14, on to a further conveyer 13 and advanced towards the wrapping machine, as described in the main Specification. On restarting the machine after a stoppage, the operation of photo-electric means PC1 ensures that the gate is lowered into a gap in the infed articles, and also that the machine is not restarted until an article arrives at the stop.. But if the wrapping machine is caused to stop by means of photo-electric cell PC2, due to absence of articles, the stop is not raised.
