Abstract

A device for intermittently feeding a cluster or group of articles groupwise to a packaging machine, for example to a machine for placing a cluster of bottles in cartons for shipping, is disclosed, in which the articles are conveyed, marshalled in rows, by a belt conveyor which supports said articles, until coming under an upper, preferably a caterpillar-like, conveyor 12 which rests with its lower lap on the tops of the articles, and coacts with an underlying conveyor 11 to push the article cluster towards the packaging unit proper. The upper and lower conveyors 12, 11 are driven at the same speed and the start-up and stopping of their drive is controlled so that clusters of articles are fed intermittently. Photoelectric cell units, masked and unmasked by the travelling articles, command the start and the stoppage of the conveying units.
