Abstract
The invention comprises the compounds of formula <FORM:0908296/IV (b)/1> and <FORM:0908296/IV (b)/2> wherein n is 1 to 28. The benzoquinone compounds are prepared by reacting 2:3-dimethoxy-5-methyl-benzoquinone with a diacyl peroxide of formula <FORM:0908296/IV (b)/3> wherein n is 1 to 28 and the hydroquinone derivatives are obtained therefrom by treatment with a mild reducing agent. In an example 2:3-dimethoxy-5-methylbenzoquinone is heated with dipalmitoyl peroxide in glacial acetic acid, the palmitic and acetic acids removed and the residue purified chromatographically to give 2:3-dimethoxy-5-methyl-6-pentadecyl-quinone which is reduced with sodium borohydride in ethanol to the corresponding hydroquinone. Further examples are specified.
