A semi-conducting ceramic glazing comprises a basic glaze mixture, spinel-forming oxides and silver or a decomposable silver compound added in such proportions that on firing the silver serves solely or mainly as a reducing agent for the higher oxides and the metallic silver remaining, if any, will not form a coherent conducting layer. The silver content in the glazing varies between 0.1 and 40%, based on the fired state. Basic glazing is given in the following formula in molar compositions: To this basic glazing may be added the spinelforming oxides. Example 1, basic glazing 80%; Fe 2 O 3 10%; Cr 2 O 3 8%; TiO 2 1% and Ag 1%. Example 2, basic glazing 7-85%; Fe 2 O 3 10-20%; Cr 2 O 3 0.6%; MnO 2 0.5%; CuO 0-5%; NiO 0-5%; Sb 2 O 3 0-3% and Ag 2 CO 3 0.1-5%. The silver or silver compound may be added direct to the raw glazing or the silver or part can be fritted ,with the spinel-forming oxides and after grinding, added to the basic glazing.
