Abstract

907,234. Drying systems and apparatus. COATES BROS. & CO. Ltd. June 5, 1961 [March 8, 1960], No. 8199/60. Class 34 (2). A method of stoving articles comprises subjecting the articles to a forced draught of hot gases in an oven having an inlet hood and a suction hood of similar size disposed opposite one another on either side of a path to be traversed by articles in the oven, the suction hood affording substantially unobstructed access of hot gases from the full width of the path and leading to the inlet hood, so that the hot gases may be caused to circulate. In a stoving oven articles to be dried are conveyed along a conveyer C-C through currents of heated air provided by inlet hoods 1, 3 and U-shaped suction hoods 2, 4 disposed opposite one another on either side of the conveyer so that the hot gases supplied to the first suction hood 2 at 5 and caused to circulate by a series of fans 8, 9 mounted in the suction hoods in the path shown by single-headed arrows. The fans and fan ducts are mounted along either side of the U- shape of the hoods 2, 4 and lead to ducting 15 mounted above the head and to ducting disposed alongside the head 4 respectively. A bleeder pipe 6 removes gas at 7 on the pressure side of the hood 4. The temperature of the oven is stated as being between 200‹ and 750‹ F. with a gas velocity greater than 7 feet/sec, and the pressure at the entrance and exit of the oven is adjusted to be substantially atmospheric. In various modifications the gases may be heated by electrical heaters; a portion of the circulating gases may be drawn off from the transfer ducting leading from a suction hood to an inlet hood for heating and returning it to a suction hood; valves may be inserted in the inlet and suction hoods; and the hoods may be so disposed that the hot gases are drawn over the articles being stoved in the same direction through the length of the oven. Specification 617,556 is referred to.
