Abstract
906,146. Copying by scanning. ILFORD Ltd. May 2, 1961 [March 2, 1960], No. 7415/60. Class 40 (3). A photographic dodging system employs a direct view storage type of cathode-ray tube as light source. The writing gun 1 of a storage tube scans the fluorescent screen 2 to produce a raster which is focused on a transparency 6. Light passing transparency 6 and the printing material 7 is received by a photo-multiplier 9, the output of which is fed back through an amplifier 10 to the writing gun 1 to produce a negative image of transparency 6 on screen 2. A corresponding charge image is formed on the target screen 3, and when the flood gun 4 is switched on, a negative image of enhanced brightness appears on screen 2. In modifications, material 7 may be out of contact with transparency 6 during the writing period, and replace the photo-multiplier when the flood gun is switched on or light may be directed to the photo-multiplier by a mirror, which may be semi-transparent. Differences in size between the initial and secondary images are compensated by moving the lens 5 nearer screen 2 before switching on the flood gun.
