Abstract
897,214. Copying by scanning; photoelectric control of photographic printing apparatus. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 5, 1958 [Sept. 14, 1957], No. 29001/57. Class 40(3). A transparency 20 is scanned by a flying spot produced by a first gun 2 in a cathoderay tube I to produce signals in a photoelectric cell 22 which are applied via an A.C. amplifier 23 to modulate the intensity of the flying spot whereby a corresponding charge pattern is built up on an electrode 16 in front of the fluorescent screen 14, a flooding gun 12, 13 being released subsequently to produce a simultaneous pattern of light in accordance with the charge pattern for printing the transparency on a surface 21. The modulation imparted by the signals from the photo-electric cell 22 is arranged so that the intensity is increased when the spot passes through a dense region of the transparency and vice versa. Amplifier 23 may introduce a desired gamma. During printing the output from photo-electric cell 22 may be switched at 24 to an integrating and switching circuit 25 which serves to apply a blanking potential to an electrode 15 after a desired exposure has been made.
