Abstract

905,966. Making printing plates; working at specified temperatures; altering molecular structure. STOLBERGER ZINK A.G. FUR BERGBAU UND HUTTENBETRIEB. July 27, 1960 [Aug. 29, 1959], No. 26170/60. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). A process for the production of deep-etch printing plates from fine alloys of high purity zinc containing as additional alloying constituents aluminium, magnesium, and, if desired beryllium, is characterized in that cast blocks of said alloys are hotrolled between a temperature range of 100‹ to 300‹ C., the temperature of the last roll pass being not less than 100‹ C., preferably between 150‹ and 180‹ C., and thereafter subjecting the metal sheets so obtained to an annealing temperature between 120‹ to 250‹ C., preferably 150‹ C. for 3 hours and finally coldrolling the sheet to a reduction of 5 to 70% preferably 30%, at a temperature from room temperature to 120‹ C., preferably between 30‹ and 60‹ C. The alloy has a composition 0.05 to 0.50% aluminium; 0.01 magnesium, and if desired 0.0005 to 0.05% beryllium, the remainder being zinc which is at least 99.99% pure. The result of etching metal sheets so treated in a nitric acid solutions shows shallow, smooth flanks and a smooth etching base, as shown in Fig. 1.
