Abstract
905,701. Photographic dye-image transfer procedures and photographic products therefor. INTERNATIONAL POLAROID CORPORATION. Jan. 6, 1960, No. 532/60. Class 98 (2). An exposed silver halide emulsion is developed in the presence of an aqueous alkaline solution of a dye developer containing one or more chelatable groups to immobilize the dye in exposed areas, remaining dye developer is transferred to a superposed image-receiving element, and contacted with a chelating metal to produce a reversed, stable, metal-complexed dye image in such element. A product to accomplish this comprises an element with the emulsion and dye developer in combination with the receiving element containing a dyeable layer and chelating metal, and a further product includes also a rupturable container of processing composition to effect image production directly after exposure. The chelating metal may be provided in the form of an ionizable salt such as the nitrate, sulphate or oxalate of aluminium, nickel, copper or cobalt, and chelate formation is typified by a reaction between ammoniacal acetylacetone and copper sulphate. Seven elucidating procedures and then twenty-two examples of the method claimed are provided, thus in procedures 1, 2 two monochrome prints are prepared by coating a gelatine-coated film base with a solution containing 2 - hydroxynaphthalene - azohydroquinone as of Specification 804,974, a silver iodobromide emulsion is applied, exposed and processed in a specified developer while in contact with image-receiving elements, one of which latter is swabbed with copper sulphate solution after separation from its emulsion to show superior properties in an ageing test over the other one not swabbed. The images concerned are magenta or purple. Procedure 3 uses 1 - (4<SP>1</SP> - [α - (hydroquinonyl) - ethyl] - 2 - hydroxy - phenylazo) - 2 - naphthol as dye developer similarly, and certain later examples have bis-(acetylacetono) copper; (ii) and other somewhat similar, copper, nickel and aluminium compounds for the chelating operation. Numerous further dye developers and other materials are quoted. An adaptation for multicolour work is briefly indicated.
