Abstract

905,463. Urine sample carriers. MILES LABORATORIES Inc. May 8, 1961 [May 6, 1960], No. 16714/61. Class 49. A carrier for urine test samples comprises a folder having front and back sheets (3, 4) on the inside of each of which is a layer of moisture-absorbing material (6, 7) covered by a non-wettable porous screen (8) and a bibulous sampleabsorbing sheet (13) adapted to be folded between the non-wettable screens and having a preservative material deposited thereon. The numerals refer to Fig. 1 in which the sample-absorbing sheet 13 is divided by means of waterproof barriers 16 formed by impregnating the sheet with cellulose acetate or other plastic material dissolved in acetone. The moisture-absorbing material 6, 7 may be a sheet or package of porous cellulose or a pad of desiccant, e.g. silica gel. The screen may be of plastic or glass cloth. The sampleabsorbing sheet may be of cellulose. The preservative material may be phenyl-mercuric acetate, nitrate or carbonate and may be deposited by impregnation as a 0.1% aqueous solution and drying. The folder may be placed in a metal foil or plastic container and an envelope for mailing. In use, a diagnostic stick or tablet may be placed on a moistened section of sheet 13 or a section thereof may be cut off and the sample extracted with water for testing.
