Means for detecting the presence of and/or for assessing the moisture content of a material comprises moisture sensitised material, e.g. paper treated with cobalt thiocyanate, within an envelope 2 of impervious material having perforations 4 therein. The envelope is carried by a supporting member 6 carrying pressure sensitive adhesive so that the means may be adhered to a surface of the material to be tested. The adhesive material may be protected by member 9.
