Abstract

905,328. Troughs for electric light fittings. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 28, 1959 [Sept. 8, 1958], No. 28803/59. Classes 75 (2), 75 (3) and 75 (4). A trough of light-transmitting material for a lighting fitting is produced by an extrusion process and formed on part at least of the side walls with a pattern of longitudinally extending prisms shaped and positioned to gather light from a source in the lower part of the trough so as to fill any shadow area which would otherwise be present in the illumination of the side walls due to the presence of an object in the upper part of the trough. The fitting comprises a support structure, e.g. a metal plate 8 having U-shaped channels 9 at the edges to receive the turned-in lips 2 of the trough 1 and a shallow inverted tray 10 secured to the plate 8 and supporting a box containing the control gear. Two brackets 13 secured to the plate 8 support the tubular lamp 15. A plate 16 is secured to the upper face of the plate 8 and has inturned edges 18 engaging flanges 20 on ceiling plates 19. The ends of the trough are closed by cemented-on plates 7 and the inside surface carries a system of refractory prisms. The fitting may also be supported by trunking as in Specifications 770,999 and 905,329.
