905,111. Weighing vehicle loads. BERGENHEIM, K. H. T., BERGENHEIM, P. I. T., and ANDERSSON, A. H. Dec. 8, 1958, No. 39439/58. Class 143. A load weighing system for lorries and like vehicles comprises a plurality of the hydraulic weighing devices shown, each of which is placed between a wheel axle and the load carrying platform of the vehicle and is connected by a feed pipe from a pump to the aperture in its base and by a return pipe to the pump from the outlet 8, the feed pipe of each device incorporating a flow restriction such as a choking plate to prevent equalization of pressure throughout the system and the return pipe of each device actuating a load indicator which, together with other of the individual load indicators, may be coupled to a total load indicator. The indicators are set to read zero with the pressure in the cylinder 6 of each device just sufficient to raise its piston 9 clear of the outlet 8 with the piston stem 10 contacting but not supporting the unloaded vehicle platform whose weight is wholly carried by the vehicle springs, this condition being achieved by use of the adjusting nut 11. Normally, the hydraulic devices are relieved of pressure by use of a by-pass (not shown) opened by a valve which may be automatically held open whenever the vehicle is in gear. To weigh the load the by-pass valve is closed, the pump operated and the pistons stems 10 raised to take the net weight of the load.
