Abstract

905,007. Pipe cleaning devices. LEMFORDER METALLWARENGESELL SCHAFT. Dec. 4, 1959 [Dec. 4, 1958], No. 41332/59. Class 99(2). The internal surface of a pipe 1 is cleaned by a fluid propelled device comprising a support member 2 on which are mounted interchangeable, spaced apart annular stripping elements 5 made of rubber or synthetic plastic, e.g. polyurethane, and having an external edge 6 which bears against the surface of the pipe and remains in sliding contact therewith during cleaning, the member 2 being of cylindrical tubular form through whose bore 7 a portion of the fluid may flow so as to travel along in advance of the device during cleaning. The member 2 is provided with grooved collars 3 in which the elements 5 are fitted. An interchangeable nozzle 9 is fitted in the bore 7 to regulate the flow of fluid through it and hence the speed of travel of the device in the pipe, The member 2 may be. made of synthetic plastic which is softer than that of the elements 5. In a modification, the support member consists of a number of cylindrical elements flanged at both ends and bolted together, the stripping elements in the form of perforated discs being secured between the flanges and, by blind flanges, at both extremities of the support member. In a further modification, the support member consists of only one flanged cylindrical element.
