Abstract
904,685. Clamps. METAL CONTAINERS Ltd. Feb. 21, 1961, No. 6313/61. Class 44. A clamp for securing a cover 12 to a container 11 comprises a split channel-shaped ring 13 having the channel opening directed inwardly and a lug 17 secured to the ring adjacent each end thereof and adapted to be engaged by ring- contracting means, in which each lug comprises a generally block-shaped body having a substantially rectangular cross-section perpendicular to the axis of the ring, the width of the body in a tangential direction with respect to the ring being considerably less than the thickness t of the body in a radial direction with respect to the ring and the height of the body in an axial direction with respect to the ring being considerably larger than the thickness, the lug body being provided with a notch 19 having a configuration similar to the transverse cross-section of the ring and encompassing substantially the entire ring cross-section. As shown, the ring is contracted by a draw-bolt 18 which passes freely through an aperture or slot in one lug and engages screw threads in the other lug.
