Abstract

The invention comprises dicarbamates of the formula <FORM:0904410/IV (b)/1> (wherein R is hydrogen or alkyl, or aryl which may contain a halogen atom as a substitutent) and their preparation from the diol and phosgene followed by the amine RNH2 or from the diol and the isocyanate RNCO. Examples are given. 1,1-Dimethylol cyclopentane is prepared from cyclopentanecarboxaldehyde and formaldehyde. The dicarbamates, which are stated to have sedative, tranquillizing and anti-spasmodic properties, may be formulated as pharmaceutical compositions for oral, rectal or parenteral administration. Tablets are referred to.
