903,921. Adjustable seats. VAN DER MEER, B. F. J., and STEDING, J. A. Jan. 31, 1961 [Feb. 12, 1960], No. 3718/61. Class 52 (2). In a chair provided with an adjustable back 7 pivotable around fulcrums 8 at the lower edge of the back, the fulcrums 8 being supported by two backwardly directed arm levers 9 pivoted at 10 to the frame 1 of the chair, cross-pins 19 located in the back co-operating with fixed guiding slots 18 in sucn a manner that when pivoting the back backwards, the lower edge as well as the upper edge is moved upwards, the seat 2 is rigidly connected to the frame 1 of the chair and at least one of the levers 9 is provided with a control arm 15, the fixed guiding slots 18 having a vertically directed lower end, together with an upper end 21 inclined backwards for locking the cross-pins 19 of the back 7 in the end position of the back attained after backward pivoting of the back 7. The frame 1 supports two arm rests 3 constructed in the shape of a U-profile 4 having sidecovering plates 5, 6. A spring 13 is connected at one end to the U-profile 4 and at its other end to a projection 12 on the lever 9. When the lever 9 is pivoted upwards by moving the control arm 15 downwards, the valve of the couple exercised by the spring on tne arm via. the projection 12 increases continuously and thus assists the movement.
