Abstract

Isoprene may be polymerized by reacting between 5 and 30 parts of isoprene with one part of anhydrous hydrogen fluoride in the presence of hydrogen at a temperature between 30 DEG and 100 DEG C. and a pressure between 15 p.s.i. and 100 p.s.i. for 5 to 36 hours. The resulting polymer is a yellow solid which contains bound hydrogen fluoride and is insoluble in acetone, hexane and benzene.
