A motion picture reflex camera comprises a reciprocating mirror carrier which has two mirror surfaces arranged on either side of an opening so that in one position the light ray can pass through an aperture therein. As shown, light passing through the objective 2 either strikes one of two mirrors 3 and is reflected to the eye 10 via a reflecting prism 6 and eyepieces 9 or passes through an aperture 19 in the mirror carrier 11 and through a shutter to a film (not shown) carried in a film guide 17. The mirror carrier is made to reciprocate along a guide 12 by means of crank-pin 14 moving in a slot 13, said pin being driven by a spring-drive or electric motor. This motor also reciprocates a shutter 20 and feeds the film. The shutter has a diaphragm of variable size comprising two plates 25, 30, movable by the moving shutter acting through pins 26, 29 engaging slots 28, 27, respectively. The size of the diaphragm aperture is varied by raising or lowering the carrier 23 of plate 25. This moves the plates 25, 30 and hence the diaphragm aperture defining edges 36, 37 towards or away from each other. Carrier 23 is moved in a vertical direction by a lever 31, the pin 33 of which engages a slot 34 in the carrier.
