Abstract

In a horizontal beam dyeing machine of the type in which cloth is rolled on a perforated <PICT:0903525/IV (b)/1> <PICT:0903525/IV (b)/2> stainless steel beam which is lowered into a tank or vat, the beam is mounted horizontally in the vat and an impeller or rotor is mounted in an end cover forming a housing therefor to circulate liquor from the vat into the interior of the beam and out through the perforations and the fabric thereon. As shown, a perforated dye beam 1 is constructed to fit into end cover 2 housing an impeller or rotor 3 mounted on spindle 4 driven by an electric motor. The opposite end of beam 1 is closed by an end wall 16 through which passes a screwed rod 17 on which is mounted a disc 18 which can thus be adjusted longitudinally of the beam for various width materials. Cloth is wound on the beam 1 which is then lowered into vat 6 containing dye liquor and a heat exchange panel 23. The beam may be mounted in V supports or in bearings so it can rotate slowly due to the action of the liquid impinging on it. The liquor is circulated in a closed circuit in the vat 6 by the impeller 3, passing from the interior of the beam through the cloth and back into the vat. A supply of dye is contained in reservoir 6b and below this is mounted a chamber 6c which houses a small perforated cylinder on which a sample piece of material is wound. Dye liquor is circulated from the inside of end cover 2 through pipe 6a to chamber 6c and back through a return pipe to vat 6 so that a sample beam dyeing machine is produced which duplicates the conditions inside the main machine and from which test pieces of dyed fabric can be taken.
