Abstract

903,451. Ventilating buildings. ROBERTSON (HOLDINGS) Ltd., H. H. (Robertson Co., H. H.). April 5, 1961, No. 12104/61. Class 137. In a building 10 with sloping roofs 12 and 13 which houses oxygen steel-making process equipment including a high-temperature furnace 17 and charging and teeming apparatus and is divided into four communicating zones, a central furnace zone 26, a superposed personnel zone 31, a charging zone 21 and a teeming zone 23 air is discharged from the zones through a vertical stack 27, an aperture 46 and ventilator stacks 40 and 41, respectively, the personnel zone 31 being supplied with fresh air through a shaft 37. The vertical stack 27 is connected to a sloping duct 28 passing through the floor 32 of the personnel zone 31 and is provided with a branch duct 29 which leads the hot gases and impurities from the open mouth 19 of the furnace 17 to suitable recovery equipment, the top of the stack 27 being normally closed. The ventilator stacks 40 and 41 are defined by outer walls 38 and 39 and the upper parts of the walls 33 and 34 of the personnel zone, respectively, and at their outlets are provided with pivoted flap valves 44 and 45. The various zones are all ventilated by convection, air supplied to the personnel zone 31 through the shaft 37 being extracted through an aperture 46 in the wall 33 which communicates with the ventilator stack 40.
