A cinematograph projector comprises a basic objective lens system and movable means carrying two or more auxiliary lens systems, each of which can be moved into line with the basic lens system to form composite systems of different focal lengths. In the projector shown, a basic objective lens 2 is mounted in a holder 3 and two front lens systems 6, 7 of which 7 includes an anamorphotic system, are mounted on a disc 5 rotatably mounted on a shaft 8 and driven by a motor 9 through a worm gear. If, for example, the lens 2 is suitable for a normal film and this type of film is being projected, an aperture in disc 5 is arranged in front of the lens 2. Lens 2 can be sharply focused by rotating a knob 4 by hand, automatic control device or remote control.
