Abstract

903,291. Pack containing volatile pesticides. AEROVAP HOLDINGS Ltd. Aug. 25, 1958 [Aug. 23, 1957], No. 26633/57. Class 81 (1). A pack holding a volatile pesticide for dissemination into the atmosphere or upon a surface comprises an elongated tubular casing having gas impervious walls and open at both ends and containing a foraminous non-volatile solid structure having deposited upon its surfaces a solid volatile pesticide so that on passage of a forced draught of a gaseous medium through the foramina at normal or elevated temperature, the deposited material is volatilized into the gas stream and is thereby disseminated. The solid may be a pesticide, e.g. DDT, benzene hexachloride, dehydroacetic acid, aldrin, di-eldrin or mixtures thereof. The foraminous material may be non-rigid, e.g. glass fibre or wool, cotton wool, a divided material which may itself be foraminous or impervious, e.g. vermiculite, glass beads, or, preferably, a self-supporting structure, e.g. filter paper, fluted, creped, embossed or corrugated paper folded or rolled to form a foraminous structure, or a plurality of tubular members which may be serpentine in shape. The Figure shows a cylindrical pack held in container 1 which is of aluminium or stout card, the foraminous material being fluted card 4 interleaved with flat card 5. The discharge end of the pack may be provided with an adjustable outlet, e.g. an iris diaphragm by which the velocity of the gas stream may be varied. Specification 903,292 is referred to.
