903,137. Aerials. CHELTON (ELECTROSTATICS) Ltd., SANDERSON, W. T., and SMITH, H. R. April 25, 1961 [April 26, 1960], No. 14644/60. Class 40 (7). A link unit of an aircraft stretched wire aerial comprises two sections relatively movable in the direction of applied tension with coacting stop means on the sections limiting the extent of the movement, a first weak link holding the sections with the stop means apart, and a second weak link securing one section to the aerial, or to a third section, it being so arranged that the first link fractures under a smaller stress than the second. Excessive tension causes the first link to fracture, the resulting extension tending to reduce the tension. In the event of the tension still increasing, the second link fractures leaving the aerial free. A spring tension unit may be provided between one section and a support, e.g. the tailplane. A pull to the left on shaft 20 causes link 23 to shear and the stop member 31 to engage the shoulder 32 of an insulator 21. The second link section, between this section and the end of the aerial, is not shown.
