Abstract

1275207 Linkwork AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [21 April 1970] 19053/70 Heading F2K [Also in Division E2] A flexible link or rod 12, shown applied to a vehicle steering mechanism, comprises closely adjacent conical ended portions 14, 18 connected by a member 21 flexible in the bending sense but capable of operating under tension or compression, and secured in sockets in the end portions 14, 18. Member 21 consists of a length of cable in the form of stranded wire or nylon preferably covered by a polyurethane sheath. As shown the ends of the cable are secured by the pointed ends 15 of threaded members 17, 27 forced into screw sockets 24 in members 14, 18. In other forms the cable is secured by diametral pins passed through members 14, 18, or by tapered pins forced into the ends of the cable, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown). To avoid twisting of the cable its ends may be secured to sleeves free to rotate in the rod sockets, Fig. 4 (not shown). The end portions 14, 18 may be connected by a helical spring to prevent their separation in the event of fracture of cable 21, Fig. 7 (not shown).
