Abstract
903,022. Teaching artificial respiration. BROOK AIRWAY Ltd. Sept. 2, 1960 [July 28, 1960], No. 30432/60. Class 81 (2). [Also in Group XV] A sectional model of a head and neck for demonstrating a method of keeping the throat clear in an unconscious person, comprises an angular support 2, 3, a neck part 6 hinged to the support at 16<SP>1</SP> and a head part 7 which is hinged to the neck 6 and also hinged to the support at 25. A tongue part 40 which also includes a central lower lip 28 is connected to outer lower jaw 20 of the head part 7 by a two-way slotted pivoted connection 27, 42, 39 and to a part 9 representing the thyroid cartilage and epiglottis 35 by a pivot 30. When the nape of the neck is raised from the position in Fig. 1 to that in Fig. 2, the neck part 6 and head part 7 pivot at 25 and the tongue part 40 and the two pivots 39 and 30 together with a pivot 34 for the part 9 cause a clear passageway 21<SP>1</SP> in the throat. Part 9 has a thin extension piece 33 with a key 37 which slides in an arcuate groove 31 in the tongue piece 40 to limit the tongue movement. Specification 837,757 is referred to.
