Abstract
902,746. Tiltable instrument mounts. PYE Ltd. June 8, 1959 [June 6, 1958], No. 18126/58. Class 97 (1). [Also in Group XXIV] For maintaining in a fixed plane a given point of a tilted object, such as a television camera or other instrument, a support 4 for the object is pivoted to a pillar 6 slidable in a direction normal to the chosen plane and has cam follower(s) 8 constrained to move in a straight line, when the support is tilted about the axis 6, by a cam surface 9 carried by the pillar bearing, the arrangement being such that there is a right-angle between lines drawn from the centre of rotation 10 of a cam follower to the pivot 6 and to the given point in the object respectively. As shown, the cam surface is frusto-conical, and azimuthal adjustment, independent of tilt, is made by rotating pillar 6 in the bearing 2. A locking-screw 11 is provided. For selecting different planes, detachable conical rings may be used to provide cam surfaces 9 of different slope. Alternatively, as shown in Fig. 2, small pivoted cam members 25, carried on a turntable for azimuthal adjustment, together with the cam-follower wheels 23, may be adjusted for variable slope by screws 28.
