A hinge comprises two hinge-plates and a hinge pin, the pin being rigidly secured intermediate its ends to one plate and having its ends rotatably engaged in sockets, closed at one end, in the other plate. The hinge plate 2, Fig. 2, is made from synthetic resin, die-cast metal or the like and is moulded around the hinge pin 3, and the plate 8 is similarly moulded around the closed - ended sockets 6, 7 when they are positioned over the ends of the pin. The sockets contain bearing-balls 9, 10, respectively. In a modification, the ends of the sockets 6, 7 are closed by screw-threaded plugs, one or both of which may be apertured to receive lubricant, and the hinge pin is of tubular form to permit the lubricant to flow from one end of the hinge to the other. The hinge plate 16, Fig. 4, is made from sheet-metal which is wrapped around a bush 18, and both the plate and bush are welded to the hinge pin 3. The plate 17 is similarly secured to the closed-ended sockets. A resilient dust seal 19 is provided. In a modification, Fig. 6, the closed-ended socket comprises a tube 22 and a plug 23 which is welded to the plate 17 ; alternatively the tube 22 may be dispensed with and the pin caused to bear directly on the plate 17. In a further modification the hinge-plates may be welded directly to the hinge pin and a pair of closed-ended tubular members, respectively.
