Abstract

902,484. Discharge apparatus. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. June 29, 1960 [July 15, 1959], No. 24348/59. Class 39 (1). In a discharge device, the electrode structure supports a capsule which contains granular material capable of emitting a vapour. The cap sule has a porous wall permitting escape of the vapour but not of the granular material. As shown, the nickel capsule 15 has a cupshaped portion and a coverplate having a central porous region formed by compressing a mixture of nickel powder and paraffin wax into the centre of an annular nickel plate and heating. The capsule, which may alternatively be of molybdenum or tungsten, contains a mixture of caesium chromate and silicon powder, which, upon induction heating, gives off caesium vapour to sensitize the antimony coatings on the dynodes 7-9, 11 and 12. The electrode structure further includes a photoemissive cathode 6 and an anode 13. In a further embodiment of the invention, a " Trigatron " (Registered Trade Mark) is provided with a capsule containing a mixture of potassium chlorate and manganese dioxide to provide a continuous supply of oxygen during operation
