Abstract
902,476. Crimping fibres. SOC. RHODIACETA. Nov. 29, 1960 [Dec. 29, 1959], No. 41067/60. Class 120 (3). In a process for producing crimped thermoplastic fibres the fibres are treated with an aqueous bath in a beating engine until they exhibit crimp. The beating engine comprises a circular or oval trough having a vertical partition around which the bath and fibres circulate. A roll provided with steel blades rotates at a short distance from the bed-plate. A wetting agent is preferably added to the aqueous bath. The wetting agent may be obtained by the action of sulphuric acid on a condensation product of a fatty acid with a monoethanolamine. The fibres may be made of acetone-soluble cellulose acetate, cellulose triacetate, polyesters, polyamides or polyacrylonitrile and may have a length in the range of 4 to 40 mm. and a denier of at least 3. The crimp produced is irregular as regards both its shape and its occurrence along the length of the fibres.
