902,442. Crayons; marking animals. COMMONWEALTH SCIENTIFIC & INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH ORGANIZATION. July 15, 1960, No. 24781/60. Classes 73 and 146 (3). A crayon composition for use in marking sheep comprises a wax, a solid saturated fatty acid, a liquid unsaturated fatty acid, a filler and a pigment. The composition may be 14 to 25% (by weight) wax, 14 to 25% solid saturated fatty acid having a melting-point between 52‹ C. and 58‹ C., 10 to 35% liquid unsaturated fatty acid having a melting-point of less than 2‹ C., 30 to 50% asbestos powder, 4 to 7% insoluble pigment and up to 2% asbestos fibre. Example T. Beeswax 18%; stearic acid 18%; oleic acid 12%; asbestos powder 47%; asbestos fibre 1%; pigment 4%. The pigment may be blue, scarlet, green or yellow. The composition is made up into a crayon for attachment to a harness worn by a ram, the crayon serving to mark the ewes with which the ram has mated. The crayon is mounted on a metal plate for attachment to the harness by the following method: a piece of fibrous cloth which has been soaked in warm crayon mix is wired to the metal plate while still warm. The metal plate is then fitted in a mould and a quantity of warmed crayon mix is poured on and around the treated cloth and allowed to solidify.
