Abstract

Particles of a synthetic rubber polymer are coated with one or more powdered hydrocarbon waxes to reduce the tendency of said particles to coalesce. The synthetic rubber polymer may be polyisobutylene or a copolymer of isobutylene and isoprene that is butyl rubber. The hydrocarbon wax which may be a high melting point microcrystalline petroleum wax or high melting point Fischer-Tropsch wax, may have an I.P. congealing point in the range 180 DEG to 210 DEG F. and an I.P. needle penetration in the range 1 to 14. The particles may be coated by stirring or tumbling them in the hydrocarbon wax. The coated particles may be incorporated in a wax blend comprising a natural wax such as Montan, Carnauba or Candelilla, a synthetic ester wax or a hardened oil such as hydrogenated castor oil. The wax blends incorporating the said coated particles may be used as coating and laminating agents for cellulosic material such as paper.
