In a rectangular section, tubular carton a wall 1 has a lid portion 12 hinged to the remainder thereof, the portion 12 and a wall 2 each having flaps 14, 19 adapted to interengage to close the carton end, the flap 19 having a slot 20 therein through which a handle portion 15 on the flap 14 is adapted to pass, and the portion 15 serving, when it lies within the box, to secure the lid closed, and when it extends outwardly of the box, as a carrying handle. In one embodiment, Figs. 1 and 3, to close the carton securely the flap 19 is folded to lie perpendicular to the wall 2, flaps 21 are folded to overlie walls 3, 4 and strips 22 are bent to the position shown in Fig. 3 with their ends underlying the wall 1. The portion 12 is folded down and the flap 14 caused to overlie the flap 19. The portion 15 is passed through the slot 20 into the carton to leave a tab 16 outside the flap 19. When it is desired to use the handle the carton is closed by closing the flap 19 and the portion 12 and inserting the tab 16 through the slot 20 so that the portion 15 lies outside the carton. The other end of the carton is closed by the insertion of a portion 9 through a slot 10. In a modification, Fig. 5, the portion 12 has flaps 24 depending therefrom and which are inserted inside the flaps 21 when the box is closed. Tongues 26 on the flaps 21 extend inside the walls 3, 4. In a further modification, Fig. 6, the lid is held assembled by hooks 44 on portions 43 hinged to a panel 37 engaging slots 42 in portions 41 hinged to a flap 39. In the closed position portions 41, 43 lie inside the ends of the walls 3, 4. For display, the end flap 30 can be folded inwardly and engaged beneath a tab 47. A tab 32 facilitates the removal of the carton from a stack.
