901,204. Electrolytic purification of liquids. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. Oct. 24, 1958 [July 26, 1957], No. 23769/57. Drawings to Specification. Class 41. Waste liquor is first treated by a biological oxidation process and then subjected to electrolytic treatment. The process is applicable to wastes having a high oxygen demand, e.g. ammoniacal waste from coal carbonization, containing phenols, thiocyanates and thiosulphates. The electrodes for the electrolytic process may be tubes or plates of solid or perforated sheet, e.g. expanded metal or woven wire mesh, of platinum, iron, carbon, or a base metal such as iron or titanium coated with platinum. The voltage may be 3 to 10 volts and the anode current density 10 to 40 mA/sq. cm. Specification 811,162 is referred to.
