901,127. Wrapping-machines. KUSTNER FBERES ET CIE S.A. June 27, 1960 [July 1, 1959], No. 22467/60. Class 94(1). A machine for wrapping plastic material such as cheese encloses increments in plastic form between opposed heat sealable webs, the sealing of the webs about each increment being accompanied by shaping of the increment. The cheese is extruded from a nozzle 7 on to a web 2 and is drawn by intermittent movement beneath the second web 9, the guide roll 11 of which may flatten each increment. The nozzle may move relative to the web to deposit cheese when the web is stationary. The roll 11 may also reciprocate horizontally to slacken the web during sealing. The webs are forced together on the support 1 by a frame 21 in a descending head 12, and a plate 23 within the frame then presses the enclosed cheese so that it fills completely the space available and expels air through apertures 28 in the frame. Further descent of the head causes a heated member 25 to seal the webs together. The resulting string of packages is drawn forward by a reciprocating plate 18 and a finger 17 which may have perforating or severing means for dividing individual packages. A conveyer belt may replace the support 1, the belt having the advantage of cooling during its lower run. The cheese may be irradiated on the web 2 to destroy mould, spores, &c. A series of joined packages may be folded to zig-zag form.
