Abstract
900,782. Tobacco smoke filters. BROTHERS, A.R. June 15, 1959, No. 20371/59. Class 130. A tobacco smoke filter plug comprises a hollow tube 1 with at least one partition 5 having an orifice 16 downstream of which is arranged a baffle 6 extending beyond the axis of the tube. The tube may be formed from plastic moulded into two semi-cylindrical portions 1, 2, Fig. 1, hinged together at 3 and provided with part-partitions 4-6 which, when the two halves are folded together, combine to form the partitions. A projection 10 on the edge of the part 1 mates with a recess on the part 2 to hold the tube halves together. In addition to the partition 5 and baffle 6 a preliminary baffle 4 may be provided to prevent tobacco particles blocking the orifice 16. One or more additional partitions P, Fig. 12, with orifices 16 decreasing in size and on alternate sides of the tube axis may be provided and the baffle 6 may be opposite a subsidiary baffle 6a or staggered thereto. The tubes may be formed as multi-plug lengths which are divided, as at 12, Fig. 1, into individual plugs. In a modification the tube is formed of sheet material, e.g. plastic, cardboard, paper, with tabs bent inwardly therefrom to form the partitions, the sheet being rolled into one or more convolutions.
