Abstract

823,690. Cigarette holders; tobacco pipes. RITCHIE, S. R. C. June 12, 1956 [March 25, 1955], No. 8713/55. Class 130. A paper or cardboard cigarette holder 9 has a filter plug 10 and a helical smoke path defined by a twisted strip 11 of paper having lateral folds, corrugations, crimps or pleats. The strip edges may have V-shaped cuts to make them a closer fit to the holder 9. The strip 11 may be secured adhesively and may be inserted in the holder 9 by a screwing action or have the holder wrapped round it. The paper strip and internal face of the holder 9 may be coated with carbon. The folds or pleats may be stitched at intervals to maintain the strip length or, according to the Provisional Specification, have an axial wire reinforcement. The holder 9 is intended to be discarded after supply and use with a packet of cigarettes. The members 9, 11 without the member 10 may form an insert for a cigarette holder or for a tobacco pipe stem. The Provisional Specification also refers to the strip 11 being replaced by interspaced and overlapping baffles.
