Abstract

900,399. Emptying boxes. ATKRON Inc. March 23, 1960, No. 10255/60. Class 94(1). Filled cartons are fed to apparatus which opens a pair of side flaps at the upper end, inverts the cartons and moves them to a position where the contents are unsupported and may discharge downwards, The cartons 5 are fed by a conveyer 3 past a plough 14 and rollers 100, the latter slightly bowing upwardly the side flaps 6 so that the plough may slide beneath and open them. A hook member 18 on a pivoted arm 15 engages under the trailing end flap 8 and opens it, and the cartons pass along a shoot 13 to a discharge position in which the contents 9 drop on to a conveyer 29. During discharge, opposed arms 27 tap opposite sides of the cartons. The laterally extending side flaps enter the nip of belts 24 travelling with a pair of drums 22 and the empty cartons are carried upwards to be ejected on to a discharge conveyer 30. The apparatus is adjustable for various carton sizes. U.S.A. Specification 2,916,133 is referred to.
