Abstract

766,475. Closing cartons. LONDON RUBBER CO., Ltd. July 28, 1955 [July 29, 1954], No. 22205/54. Class 94(1). Carton-closing mechanism comprises a chain conveyer 10 fitted with platforms 11 having upstanding tabs 15 by which cartons 12 are supported and moved in succession between fixed plates 13 which fold and tuck in their end flaps 14. Each plate comprises a plane base portion 16, and its cross-section varies progressively from that shown in Fig. 2 to that shown in Fig. 7. The parts 17, 18 of each plate define a twisted groove which receives the lip portion 20 of each flap and co-operates with a tapered bar 21 to fold the lip portion through 120 degrees as shown in Figs. 2-4. The part 17 terminates at point D, the part 18 tapers to zero width between the points D and 25 and the part 23 of the plate which engages the portion 24 of the flap is twisted upwardly between the points D and E so that the flap is folded upwardly and the lip 20 tucked into the body of the carton as shown in Figs. 5-7.
