Abstract
899,510. Sterilizing liquids. BREIL, J. Dec. 30, 1960 [Jan. 5, 1960], No. 44691/60. Class 49. [Also in Group XIII] In apparatus for the heat treatment of a liquid such as milk by steam injection and subsequent expansion, wherein the liquid is heated in the first circuit 3a of a two-circuit heat exchanger, is subjected in a chamber 4 to steam injected through a line 5, is cooled in a vacuum chamber 6 and pumped by a pump 7 to a cooler 8, a mixing condenser 10 is connected to the vacuum chamber, an axuiliary liquid, particularly water, is injected into the condenser for condensing the vapours from the vacuum chamber and the auxiliary liquid thus heated is circulated through a pump 15 to the second circuit 3b of the heat exchanger and back to the mixing condenser. The mixing condenser may include a main condenser 11 and an auxiliary condenser 12; these condensers may be connected to a common vacuum pump 17.
