Abstract

899,271. Helicopters. DE SIEBENTHAL, C. Oct. 13, 1958, No. 32629/58. Class 4. A helicopter comprises a fuselage 1, a rotor shaft 4, a pair of rotors 5, 6, a screw propeller 9 mounted on each forward extremity of each rotor and baffles or screens 10 carried by each rotor and positioned in front of and within the operating disc of each propeller so as to restrict the airflow through the innermost part of the propeller disc. As shown in Fig. 1, the baffles extend forwardly of the wing and are cranked, but in an alternative arrangement the outer leading edges of each rotor blade are stepped or notched for the propellers so that the baffles form extensions of the blade leading edges. It is stated that the purpose of the baffles is to prevent the thrust reactors of the propellers from inclining outwards.
