Abstract

Relates to salts of penicillins and benzyhydrylaminoalcohols of the formula (C6H5)2CH-NH-CRR1-CH(R2)OH wherein R, R1 and R2 each represent a hydrogen atom or a methyl group. The salts may be prepared by reacting a penicillin in acid form with a benzyhydrylaminoalcohol of the above formula in an inert medium such as diethylether, dipropylether, chloroform, acetone, methylethyl or methylisobutyl ketone, or by reacting in an inert medium such as water or ethanol a soluble salt of a penicillin and a soluble salt of the benzhydrylaminoalcohol. The benzhydrylaminoalcohols of the above formula may be prepared by reacting a benzhydryl halide of the formula (C6H5)2CH-Hal (wherein Hal represents a halogen atom) with an aminoalcohol of the formula H2NCRR1-CH(R2)OH.ALSO:Pharmaceutical compositions suitable for parenteral administration comprise non-aqueous solutions or aqueous or non-aqueous suspensions or emulsions of one or more salts of penicillins and benzhydrylaminoalcohols of the formula (C6H5)2CH-NH-CRR1-CH(R2)OH, wherein R, R1 and R2 each represent a hydrogen atom or a methyl group. The composition may also contain other penicillin salts such as sodium penicillin G.
